Times were tough during the Great Depression. A Burlington banker wanted to make it a little easier for his neighbors by providing quality insurance protection when it was hard to get. So in 1933, James Mangold, Sr. started a small agency. His son, James Mangold, Jr., took over the business in 1959 and the third-generation namesake, James Mangold III, was named president in 1998. Today, Mangold Insurance remains family-owned and operated with 14 employees, clients in ten states and is one of the area’s largest independent insurance agencies. We have grown just like the insurance needs of our clients. Our founder’s inspiration, though, has stayed constant – neighbors helping neighbors. He would be proud.
Our responsibilities as neighbors also extend to the community. We proudly participate in the education of our local youth, including giving insurance presentations to business classes and participating in Burlington High School’s Reality Fair. We give our time and financial support to the Burlington Rescue Squad, 4H livestock auctions at several local County Fairs, Burlington High School Athletic Association, as well as many other youth clubs and activities. Our staff members volunteer in many non-profit & civic organizations including Kiwanis, Love Inc., Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce and Chocolatefest.
James Mangold III, President
Jim started his insurance carrier at the age of one. Born into the family business, he knew early on that the agency would be his career path. He graduated from the University of WI Eau Claire with a degree in marketing, then went to work for a large regional insurance carrier in the commercial underwriting division, He came back to the agency in 1998 in underwriting and moved on to commercial insurance before becoming president of the agency. Jim earned both the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designations. A lifelong resident of Burlington. he stays active in the community and has served on the boards of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, Love Incorporated, Chocolatefest, and the advisory board for BMO Harris Banks Southeast region. He is married to Angie, a 6th grade teacher in the local school district and has three wonderful children that keep him running constantly. In his spare time he is an avid outdoorsman that includes enjoying hunting, fishing, biking, snowmobiling and spending quality family time in Northern Wisconsin.
Laurie Weinhammer, Vice President
Laurie is a seasoned insurance expert with 34 years of industry experience. She focuses on assisting clients with insurance review of contractual agreements, general insurance needs, workers comp retro’s, dividend plans, captives, bonding, directors & officers, professional, employment practices, fiduciary and cyber liability. “I enjoy working with my clients to help them maintain low workers comp experience modifications through insurance review of contracts, claim management, and coordination of appropriate safety programs,” she says. “Purchasing insurance is not solely about buying the coverage; it’s also about finding the right agency that will help clients keep costs down.” Laurie is the mother to 20 yr.-old twins (a son and a daughter) and is married to a wonderful man for 32 years. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, cooking and gardening.
Krista Hintz, CISR Personal Lines Account Manager
Krista has worked at Mangold Insurance since July, 2007, creating policies for personal homes, autos, toys and umbrella. She currently holds a Certified Insurance Service Representative designation. Married 25 years to Perry, Krista has three wonderful children, Cecilia, Jordan, Olivia and the family dog Clay. She enjoys stamping, scrapbooking, walking, reading and hanging out with family and friends.
Cheryl Kessler, Quality Manager
Cheryl has worked at Mangold Insurance for 29 years, a majority of the time in Personal Lines. Recently, she was named Quality Manager and assists in both Personal and Commercial Lines. She enjoys the diversity and challenge of the different tasks at hand. No two days are alike. She loves gardening and starts early –planting flowers in the spring and then by mid-summer wondering why she planted so many! But it’s all worth it! She also admits to being somewhat of a reality TV junkie.
Office Manager & Senior Care Specialist
Amy has worked for Mangold Insurance, as the Office Manager, for nine years. She also manages the Personal Lines Department and in 2015 took on the role of Senior Care Account Executive specializing in Medicare Supplement and Advantage plans. Amy and her husband enjoy spending time with their two children and four grandchildren. They love traveling, hiking, camping and catching up with family and friends.
Linda Maltby, Commercial Lines Account Manager
Linda has worked at Mangold Insurance for 24 years. She started out as a Personal Lines Assistant and became licensed in 1992. She moved over to Commercial Lines two years later where she has been serving our Commercial clients ever since. Linda and her husband enjoy their ten grandchildren, cooking and gardening together.
Tammy Meyers, Farm Department Manager
Tammy has been with Mangold Insurance for 20 years and is the Customer Service Representative in the Farm Department and truly enjoys assisting the farm clients. Tammy currently holds her Certified Insurance Service Representatives designation. In her spare time she enjoys going to her cabin up north hunting (recently shot her 2nd bear) and fishing with her husband Tom. Tammy is a proud grandmother of three.
Tina Pope, Production & Benefits Manager, Life, Health & Disability
Tina has worked for Mangold Insurance since 2010 and has over 30 years of insurance experience; from processing health insurance claims to underwriting life and disability products. She lives in Burlington with her husband Ryan and their American Bulldog Rizzo. She has 3 children Nicole, Jessica and Kevin. Tina loves hanging out with family and friends and reading a good book (with a glass of good wine.) She is outnumbered in the office when it comes to sports, as she is a Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan.
Stephen Quist, Commercial Lines Account Executive
Stephen is a Commercial Account Executive with a background in construction and is also the fourth generation to work at Mangold Insurance. He started in 2014 after graduating from Iowa State University. Stephen recently earned his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. In his spare time, Stephen coaches youth basketball in Burlington and recently became a board member of the Young Republicans of Racine and Burlington Chamber of Commerce. He enjoys the outdoors with his wonderful wife Cassie and during football season, watching the Green Bay Packers every Sunday. Go Pack!
Rick Sedlak, Automation and Accounting Manager
Rick was hired through a Veterans’ employment program back in 1984 after serving in the Vietnam War and finishing his degree in accounting. What you’ve heard about hiring a veteran is true; Rick is a very loyal and trustworthy employee and we were fortunate to hire him.
He guided us through the purchase and setup of our first computer systems back in 1985 and has continued to enjoy keeping Mangold Insurance in the forefront of automation for over 30 years.
Rick enjoys spending time with his dog Sam and friends at his cabin, fishing, canoeing, snow shoeing: anything that can be done out-doors! Since 1975 Rick has participated in winter league pool and over that time has had the opportunity to compete with nearly everyone who enjoys the game of pool in the Burlington area.

Sue Tuma, Commercial Lines Account Manager
Sue started her work experience at the age of 13 working in the family restaurant. In 1985 she worked as a dispatcher for a limousine company for a year, then became an Optometry Technician and eventuality was named Office Manager. She came to Mangold in 1999 and has worked in the Farm and Personal Lines departments as an Assistant. Currently Sue is a Customer Service Representative, who has a CISR designation which she earned in 2005. She currently handles small and midsize businesses and enjoys helping and talking with all her clients. She enjoys spending time with her 21 year old daughter Jessica, 16 year old son Cameron and friends whether it is around a bonfire, cooking, playing cards or other fun family activities.
Matt Walby, Agriculture Insurance Specialist
Matt was born & raised in Viroqua and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. With over 20 years of sales experience, he has worked at Mangold Insurance for five years as sales executive in the Farm Department. Having spent the last 22 years around the family farm and married to a farm girl from Soldiers Grove, WI, Matt has the deep experience and enthusiasm to relate and provide the necessary coverage to our farm customers. He is a Business Member of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin, Farm Bureau and Wisconsin Farmers Union. He is also AFIS Certified – Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist.
Matt is currently the President of the Burlington Boys Basketball Club and the Travel Youth Basketball for 3rd-8th grade boys and helps coach Flag Football and Baseball. Throughout the year Matt loves to support various Burlington Volleyball, Football, Basketball and Baseball teams. When not working or running his three kids around to sporting activities, he loves to play golf.
Anita Pomazak, Personal Lines Account Manager
Anita Pomazak comes from an insurance family, Co-Owning her own agency and working in Wisconsin for the last 10 years on personal and commercial lines. Anita is happily married to her husband of 10 years Mark. They have four children, Alex, Nikki, Abbie & Lucien. She enjoys spending time with her family at their house on the lake and working with various animals on her hobby farm.
Gail Bishop, Commercial Lines Account Manager
Gail comes to Mangold Insurance with 26 years of insurance experience in the Burlington area. Gail has been happily married to her husband, Tom for 32 years. They have two children, a daughter and son actively serving in the US Army. Gail enjoys spending time with family and friends and her 6 cats. Gail is also very active with veterans organizations and will be embarking on her 5th trip in May, 2017 as an assistant with Vetsroll, taking 200 WWII and Korean War Veterans to Washington DC.
Lora Bonn, Administrative Assistant
Lora is our newest addition to our team. Lora has years of administrative skills and enjoys assisting clients. Lora will be a great asset to the rest of the office and is willing to help in any capacity needed. Lora is a long time resident of Burlington and has 2 grown children, Benjamin and Elizabeth. She enjoys spending time in her gardens creating beauty, walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, camping and bonfires with her family and friends.
