In 1933, James Mangold Sr. was a Burlington banker watching his neighbors and customers struggle through the Great Depression. When it was hardest to find reliable insurance protection, he decided to provide it — and Mangold Insurance was born.
More than 90 years later, Mangold Insurance is still in Burlington. In 2026, Stephen Quist became the fourth-generation leader of the agency — carrying forward the same mission James Mangold Sr. started in 1933. We have 18 agents and staff, and we're one of the largest independent insurance agencies in the Burlington area.
In 2019, we partnered with Robertson Ryan & Associates — a Top 100 U.S. insurance agency based in Milwaukee — not because we had to, but because it allowed us to expand the programs and carrier relationships we can bring to our clients. Mangold remains fully owned and operated by the Mangold family. Nothing about how we serve our community has changed.
What has always driven us is the same thing that drove James Mangold Sr.: the belief that our neighbors deserve an agent who works for them, knows them, and shows up when things go wrong.

Mangold Insurance adopted Riverside Park — a community park in Burlington — as part of our annual service commitment. Our team puts in real hours: adding mulch, planting flowers, cleaning the kayak launch, and power washing the fishing stations. It's a small park. It matters to the people who use it.
We sponsor the Lakeland Builders Association golf outing, support local 4H programs, and invest in the organizations that keep small communities functioning. Youth agriculture, youth athletics, local trades — if it builds this community up, we want to be part of it.
Our team serves on local boards across Burlington — the Experience Burlington Chamber, Building Burlington Leadership Council, Life Choices Burlington, and other community organizations. We put time into the groups that shape what this town is going to be next.
